Amazon.co.uk Review
Head massage is a familiar part of life in India and
Narendra Mehta, blind from infancy, grew up experiencing
the benefits of this tradition. An osteopath and massage
therapist, he developed a unique system of massage he
calls "champissage" (from the Indian word
"champi" meaning head massage) and has founded
and runs the London Centre of Indian Champissage. In this
attractive, hardback book Mehta introduces the reader to
the method with easy-to-follow instructions accompanied
by both photographs and diagrams. The anatomical drawings
are also clear and user-friendly.
As well as covering the history and development of the
art of Indian head massage, there are chapters on
managing stress, massage techniques, partners and lovers,
caring for the hair and self-massage, ensuring readers
are equipped to make the most of their new skill.
The text is interspersed with quotations from articles
about Mehta's work and philosophical quotes from famous
people. These combine with the decorative details to give
a book with a special luxurious feel, making it an ideal
gift. Anyone presented with this beautiful book is bound
to be delighted and inspired. Give it to your nearest and
dearest and hope they practice on you! It is certain that
there will be many grateful readers wishing to say a
heartfelt thank you to Narendra Mehta for bringing this
wonderful therapy to the West. -- Dale Evans

Synopsis
The Indian head, neck, shoulder, face and ear massage is
becoming increasingly popular and sought after in the
West. Colleges and therapy centres now regularly feature
the treatment along with more established complementary
therapies. The aim of this textbook is to guide the many
therapists and student therapists through both the
practical and theoretical aspects of Indian Head Massage,
providing both Eastern and Western approaches to the
treatment. "Authentic Indian Head Massage" can
by used as a comprehensive reference text for students to
practice the therapy. In addition, the book is intended
as a support to various examining boards available in
local and national training institutes for Indian Head
Massage. In particular, the book covers core syllabus
material in the CAT (Confederation of Ayurvedic Therapy)
Diplomas which are regulated by The Confederation of
Indian Head Massage, VTCT and Edexcel B/TEC. Other
examining and awarding bodies are likely to expand into
this field, and the text should be comprehensive enough
to support any future syllabuses on the subject. Kush
Kumar is a qualified lecturer and authority on Indian
Head Massage. Kush was brought up with Indian Head
Massage, and has travelled extensively to different parts
of India to supplement and enhance existing techniques.
Kush has since established the Confederation of Indian
Head Massage, and has appeared on satellite TV to talk
about the therapy.

Indian Head Massage, May 16, 2000
Reviewer: A reader (U.K.)
I got this book as a present and was initially sceptical
but I really liked the clear guidelines and nice glossy
photographs. I found the case studies useful -
particularly dealing with headaches and massaging your
children. My children love giving me head massages now,
and following the photographs. It's refreshingly non-cranky
but it does have some spiritual info too.
